Online Blackjack

Blackjack has been an ever-present table game at all good casinos the world over. However, the advent of the Internet has meant the game has undergone a revolution, with a range of new and exciting blackjack variants now available to play online. In particular, playing on the web has meant it is now possible to play thrilling types of blackjack not normally available in certain regions in just one internet casino.

Most reputable casinos have at least 5 or 6 types of the more common online blackjack games like classic online blackjack, Atlantic City BlackJack, 21, Spanish Blackjack and Pontoon. Some offer table specific variants which may alter the amount and type of bet, like the exciting and edgy high stake games, online blackjack with an insurance bet, multi hand online blackjack, or even online blackjack a live dealer. The result is that some games reward differently for different hand combinations and put greater returns on certain types of bet. Therefore it is important that a player find a variant that suits his or her preferred style. However, all variants follow the same basic, simple principles.

I put emphasis on simple. Blackjack may look complicated at off line casinos, with lots of players crowding around a table, multi-coloured chips strewn about casually and everyone using odd terms. However, as soon as you bring the game online it suddenly becomes incredibly straight-forward with the basics of the game coming to the fore. Online blackjack doesn’t require a master’s degree in mathematics and chip recognition; you bet the amount you want using numbers and an easy to read balance. The game then all comes down to understanding the basic rules, which are timeless and, if played right, can build a very healthy return.

All online blackjack (and off line blackjack) revolves around beating the banker. Players do this by building a hand of 21 or attaining blackjack (when the two initial cards dealt are made up of an Ace and a ten-value picture card, i.e. a King, Queen or Jack. Blackjack means the player automatically wins unless the banker also has blackjack) and not going ‘bust’ – when a player has a score of 22 or greater. The value of the cards can be easily explained. Each number card is worth its face value, aces are worth either 1 or 11 and all picture cards equal 10

The player and banker are dealt two cards initially. The player can either ‘stay’ (if the player is confident that score is greater than the bankers) or ‘hit’ (if the player wants to add to his or her score). The danger in hitting is that the score may surmount 21 with the addition of another card, i.e. the player has 8h and 5s (13), ‘twists’ and gets a Jack, giving the player a score of 23 and is therefore bust. When the banker and the player build equal scores then the game is a “push”. No one wins the game and the stakes are returned or re-bet.

The blackjack player is giving a helpful edge when (in some blackjack variants) the dealer must stick or hit on 17. Additionally some online blackjack variants include or restrict other features like the “double down”, “surrender” or “split” where your hand is divided into two and played simultaneously. Some of these intricacies are best experienced than described, so why not log into the online casino of your choice and give them a go. Don’t forget: good casinos allow you to try each of the variants in a demo mode before gambling, so it won’t cost you a penny to master online blackjack. Blackjack has a great margin that can keep you playing for hours on a low budget. Don’t expect big winnings though unless you’re willing to risk more in bigger bets more frequently. Nonetheless, blackjack’s pedigree will mean quality fun for any type of player with any type of budget, as long as you play at the right online casino.
